Charlestown and the local area

The village of Charlestown is designated an International Heritage Site and conservation area.

T'Gallants guesthouse is centrally situated overlooking the old Georgian harbour which is the base for a fleet of square-rigged sailing ships.

The square-riggers and the harbour itself are often used as movie sets. Films such as he The Eagle Has Landed, The Three Musketeers, Treasure Island and Apocalyptho to name a few as well as many historical and period television series have been filmed in Charlestown.

On either side of the harbour entrance are two attractive pebble beaches for bathing or strolling.

Three Golf Courses lie within two miles of T'Gallants guest house.

The Eden Project is three miles away and the Lost Gardens of Heligan are 6 miles away.

Charlestown boasts a Post Office store, three pubs each serving bar and restaurant meals, a Bistro and the Charlestown Shipwreck and Heritage Centre.

A variety of old classic boats are usually tied up in the harbour where repairs are carried out in traditional ways.

There are coastal walks to the east and west.

Along the coast path to the east is Crinnis beach and Carlyon Bay with its huge sandy beach and over the coast path to the west is the pretty beach of Porthpean, known as the 'locals' beach because the locals consider it the best beach in St. Austell Bay.
